Feel stiff and inflexible? Tried stretching but still getting nowhere?
Here's the reason why – stretching alone does not make you flexible.
At the PIT, we tailor our programmes to provide muscle balance for our clients. It is the same for EVERY single programme we have. We use a hybrid of techniques – strengthening, myofascial release (self massage), and dynamic and static stretching.
Stretching alone will lengthen a taut muscle, but you have to ask yourself why that muscle was tight in the first place. Chances are, it was tight because it was compensating for a weaker muscle. By stretching alone, you are lengthening the muscle, but you are avoiding the problem of the weaker muscle. Your loosened tight muscle is going to be tight again.
A combination of stretching, massage, muscle activation and strengthening is crucial to achieve flexibility.
